La Nina 2024 India. India braces for a potentially severe winter as la nina looms, bringing the possibility of sharp temperature drops and heightened rainfall, marking a significant climatic shift at the end of the monsoon season. El nino (or ‘the little girl’ in spanish) and la nina (or ‘the little boy’ in spanish) are two opposing climate trends that deviate from the normal conditions and normally run 9 to 12 months.
The la nina phenomenon is set to intensify this winter, potentially leading to severe conditions in kashmir and ladakh. According to the indian meteorological department (imd), the onset of la nina is expected to take place from september 2024 with the cooling of the central pacific.
